- St George’s Cathedral Sculpture Project -
A whole lot of different sculptural interpretations of St George killing the dragon have been put up for a vote. Winner gets the commission from the cathedral. Check out the entries here.
If you’d like my recommendation, vote for Martha Walker. She’s a great lady and a wonderful artist. More of her work can be seen at her website.

Cool competition!! This particular legend means quite a lot to me, and occurs to my mind often – particularly the classic symbology reiterated in some of the offerings. Your recommendation is a wee bit abstract for my taste… actually I quite like the Todd McGrain one where the audience is invited to participate with the lance :-)

Yeah, I really liked seeing so many people’s different takes on the subject. Granted, some were kind of crap….to be expected though, I guess.
I heard about the competition from Martha Walker, so I’m just trying to give her a little free press here. I am a huge fan of her work, and the sketch she provided doesn’t really do it justice. Hence the link to her gallery! :)

Thanks for weighing in Kenny!
Hey, that one’s pretty cool too. Gotta love the symbolic value of combining the knight-vs-dragon with the cross.
Be sure to vote on the site, cause it looks like the contest is still going on. Entries are still open as well; anyone who wants a shot at winning the contest apparently still has until Feb 19th to enter…
