- Hermann Hesse of Form and Flow -

…each form and each individual—not just the beautiful ones—is a source of wonder, the only object in the flow of events that truly exists, or is at least perceptible.

quotes
  1. From Hesse’s correspondence to Rector Otto Kimmig. This particular thought was brought up in the consideration of art and the art of writing a novel, but it also speaks of a larger philosophy he held toward life as form.

If you manage to see a cheap copy of “Soul of the Age”: Selected Letters of Hermann Hesse (1891-1962), I would recommend grabbing one. Even with a busy schedule / full queue of books, quite manageable to read a letter or two daily.

  2. Awesome, thanks J. Hope you don’t mind that I stole that from ya. :)

Its now on my amazon list. Also, I added a link to amazon in your comment, just cause it seems like that’d be useful.

Its funny how similar writing a novel is to how we structure our own take on reality. The same language can be used for both…

In this case, I liked the quote because it reminds me that being aware of the flow of consciousness through time can help to make our ability to focus on one particular form a wonder full experience…

  3. Stole? They’re Hesse’s words, not mine. :)

Besides, it brings me such joy to know his words and works are spreading to a wider audience.
