- The I Ching on Darkness -
->
There are Four Changing Lines.
Read the Upper NON-changing Line
Hexagram Thirty-Six/Line Six:
Here the climax of the darkening is reached. The dark power at first held so high a place that it could wound all who were on the side of good and of the light. But in the end it perishes of its own darkness, for evil must itself fall at the very moment when it has wholly overcome the good, and thus consumed the energy to which it owed its duration.
(via I Ching Online, emphasis mine)

I did stichomancy from that same site and asked
“what did I do wrong with whatserface?” and got this:
“Moriarty was drawn, not into Mrs. Reiver’s set, because they were not his sort, but into the power of Mrs. Reiver, and he fell down in front of her and made a goddess of her. This was due to his coming fresh out of the jungle to a big town. He could not scale things properly or see who was what.
Because Mrs. Reiver was cold and hard, he said she was stately and dignified. Because she had no brains, and could not talk cleverly, he said she was reserved and shy. Mrs. Reiver shy! Because she was unworthy of honor or reverence from any one, he reverenced her from a distance and dowered her with all the virtues in the Bible and most of those in Shakespeare.”
Its from a short story “In Error” by Rudyard Kipling. I think that site works!

That’s a good one.
I will say that the I Ching site I’ve been using is a different one (check the link above) but the Facade site can still come through if you take it seriously enough.

Ian, how did you come across this reading? What was your query? I’ve been stepping up my I-Ching practice the last few months with both study and inquiry, using a book “The Book of Change and the Unchanging Truth” as my “textbook”. It is massive, extremely detailed, and I highly recommend it for a thorough analysis of how the Universe works (from the perspective of the I-Ching, obviously). The commentaries on the hexagrams are also very good, as one would expect.
However, when doing actual readings, I’ve been keeping it simple with an app on my phone (go figure), and sites like the one you linked above. In the past I would reserve the I-Ching for “serious” questions, but lately I’ve been working things more simply.
I just tried the “I Ching Online” for the first time with this inquiry “How should I best handle the ongoing events of today?” with this result:
50 – Fifty
Ting / The Caldron
Fire rises hot and bright from the Wood beneath the sacrificial caldron:
The Superior Person positions himself correctly within the flow of Cosmic forces.
Supreme Accomplishment.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
Your needs are coming into harmony with the requirements of the Cosmos.
Blending brilliantly with the Dance of Life, you are becoming an actual element of Cosmic Law.
Your goals will now be realized because you no longer cut against the Cosmic grain; you are no longer swimming against the flow of the Tao. You are acquiring an intuitive sense of what can and cannot be, and aligning your efforts accordingly.
Sweet! This is good news cuz the first two hours at work totally kicked my ass. But, I’m still cheerful and on my feet!

Hi Donn, good to see you here!
Thanks for the recommendation. There’s another book for my wishlist… (if anyone’s interested, ya’ll can check out my ridiculousness here. I’ve got stuff on there that goes back to 2000…)
Honestly, I don’t remember what I’d asked to get that one. I’ve been using that site pretty intensively throughout the day lately, in an attempt to work on my divination skills. Unfortunately, one downside to this that I’ve noticed is an impairment of my ability to make decisions, so I’m thinking about laying off it for a while. Really though, I think the key is cultivate the correct attitude toward the I Ching, so that the answers actually prove useful. I figure its like learning a new software program or something, takes a while to integrate.
I do like the IChingOnline site, but I don’t always trust their descriptions. Sometimes its best to use the Wilhelm translation they offer and compare the two. Though usually I find useful answers in both sections. Anyway, sounds like its working for you. Getting your ass kicked at work, but coming out of it cheerful and on your feet certainly seems harmonious to me. :)

Yeah, that happened to me too with doing too many divinations.

Gospel of John, 1:5:
The light shines in the darkness:
- but the darkness has not understood it.
- and the darkness can never extinguish it.
- and the darkness has not overcome it.
- and the darkness did not comprehend it.
- and the darkness has never put it out.
(etc etc)
You can’t have a shadow without a light, but the shadow can never touch the light itself.
