- The Black (Tape) Arts -
So we’ve pretty much reached the end of Art Week here at Reclusland, but I wanted to end it with something a little different. So here you are.
This is something I started doing after reading a book called The Artists Way (which works, let me tell you). It just kind of popped into my head one day to start using tape to make geometric patterns around my room. I started out with duct tape, but that wasn’t too kind to the paint, so I decided to switch over to black masking tape. There’s something about these that I really like, but then, my mind always has been drawn to patterns…

I like these a lot, especially the last four. I mean, the first ones look like geometrical exercizes but the later ones start to look almost like a language of some kind. And I have to say I’m drawn to anything in an unusual medium. Presumably that last one is on a door…?

Yeah, they go in order of time, so I was a little more familiar with the medium in the later ones. My favorite’s probably the 5th or 6th one. Haven’t had a chance to do since I moved into the new place though. Maybe soon.
And yes, that last one is indeed on a door, the door between the common area and my bedroom at the last apartment. My roommates were very understanding. :)
I am surprised at how nicely they photographed, though maybe I should include something for size reference in the future. That sixth one was a good three feet tall.
